Robotic Welding Sparks Continued Investment at Grenville Engineering

Following the successful deployment of its first Migatronic CoWelder in July 2023, the company has invested an additional £180,000 in a second robotic welding system, reinforcing its strategy for future-ready manufacturing. This investment underlines Grenville’s commitment to enhancing production capabilities while upholding its reputation for high-quality craftsmanship.

In today’s fast-paced manufacturing environment, where speed, precision, and consistency are critical, Grenville Engineering stands out by seamlessly integrating advanced technology with hands-on expertise. The company’s adoption of robotic welding represents a strategic enhancement to its well-established manual welding services, allowing for improved efficiency, repeatability, and reduced cycle times—especially on high-volume, repetitive tasks. By freeing skilled welders to focus on more complex and bespoke fabrications, Grenville ensures that both automation and craftsmanship play essential roles in its operations.

Sales Director Stuart Rawlinson explains, “The addition of robotic welding is about enhancing our capabilities, not replacing the craftsmanship we’re proud of. It gives us the best of both worlds—automated precision for volume work and skilled expertise for bespoke and complex fabrications. It’s an investment in both technology and people.”

At the heart of Grenville Engineering’s operations is its comprehensive welding department, featuring 22 fully equipped welding bays and a team of ASME IX-qualified welders. The company offers a broad range of metal joining techniques, including MIG welding, TIG welding, spot welding, stud welding, and riveting, and works with materials from thin gauge 0.8mm up to 15mm heavy-duty components. This flexibility enables Grenville to support a diverse range of projects and sectors with consistent quality and precision.

What truly sets Grenville apart is its balanced approach—leveraging the advantages of cutting-edge robotics alongside traditional welding skills. A key part of this strategy is its award-winning apprenticeship programme, which nurtures the next generation of welders through hands-on training with experienced professionals. These apprentices play an active role on the shop floor, contributing to the company’s high standards while developing their own technical expertise.

Grenville’s ongoing investment in robotic welding highlights its long-term vision: to combine scalable automation with human skill, offering customers repeatable, high-quality solutions without sacrificing flexibility. As reshoring and demand for UK-based manufacturing continue to rise, Grenville Engineering remains well-positioned to meet evolving customer needs through innovation, talent development, and a focus on continuous improvement.
